Books We Are Loving

To our Purple Orchid Family,

It is one of the greatest joys of this profession that we get to be a part of the happiest days and moments of people’s lives. During this unprecedented time, we are changing up our usual content in hopes to provide a bit of solace and joy for each of our beloved friends.

We have been taking this time to dive back into a hobby that life often feels too busy for: reading. We are sharing a list of our favorite books, with the hopes that you will enjoy them during your social distancing.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

A love story, commentary on American suburbia, and a peak into artistic genius, all mixed into one. You are sure to get lost in this story and feel the book flying by! This story was recently picked up by Reese Witherspoon’s production company (the creators of Big Little Lies – but we’ll get there!) to be turned into a tv show, and I, for one, am dying to see how they continue the story and represent the cast.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

Wow – one of the spectacular books I have read in a very long time. It is both a murder-mystery and a stunning love story. What better combination could you ask for? Beyond the thrilling story line, the writing itself is beautiful.

Educated by Tara Westover

With many schools shut down for the time being, this memoir by a woman who had never even entered a school until the age of 17 is a beautifully written representation of the many different types of education out there. A compelling read, this book opened my eyes to a lifestyle that goes virtually un-discussed in the United States.

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

This is by the same author as Big Little Lies – must we say any more? A honest disclaimer here, but I am only a third of the way through this book, but so far it has been an easy, light read with a growing air of mystery. Start it for yourself and we can discuss!

We are acutely aware of what a difficult, overwhelming time this is, and know that providing a little list of books by no means fixes that. We hope that this is just one small thing that we can do to show how much we are thinking of you all and our Purple Orchid community.

With love,

Kristina + the POE team

We can't wait to get to know you!
