steps to consider when planning a tented wedding in maine

One hard realization many of our clients have when planning a tented wedding in Maine, is that this is not going to save anyone money. We completely understand you will have the pleasure of inviting loved ones and your closest friends to a family home or maybe a place you have grown up summering. However, please note, this will only save you money on the venue. Our blatant truth is in NO way to discourage you- we LOVE tented weddings. Just know, renting a tent and everything that goes in it, will start to add up. The benefit, is that you can have as much creativity as you desire and often, the views and location are worth every penny.

Great, so you have the wedding location and a date! Now you need a tent. Fortunately for you, there are a lot of great rental companies in Maine. Just remember, some companies such as Sperry Tents Seacoast, only rent (amazing) tents and floors while other rental companies can source you with the entire package- from tents to spoons. To save time and money, you might think about limiting your rental companies to a few favorites.

In addition to tents and all the wedding fixings (tent sides, tables, chairs, linen, china, silverware) you will also have to think about a catering space (kitchen, garage or other rented covered area). Oftentimes, catering tents and equipment will need to be rented by the couple. As another reminder, some companies can also supply you with wedding props, decorations and stylish décor.

Other major considerations when planning a tented wedding in Maine:

Bathrooms, Sexy I know- but bathrooms are a necessity. Most septic systems will not be able to accommodate the number of guests that will be attending your wedding.

Wedding Insurance, if you plan on having a party in the great Maine outdoors, please consider all weather elements, as well as gathering a large amount of people in one place. Wedding Insurance can be offered through most home-owners insurance.

Bartenders- Is this something your catering team is going to handle? Who has the insurance?

Trash– Who will be taking care of the trash? The catering team or is it the person who oversees the property?

Tented Weddings can be well worth time, effort, and money that goes into planning one. They can be simple or as elaborate as you want. Hopefully these tips can help you along the way in planning a perfect tented wedding- either in Maine or Beyond.

krissy & melinda: 9.3.16

The team began working with Krissy and Melinda about a year before their Maine wedding. So many details where desired – and it came together in the most beautiful way.

With the help of a Rockstar team of vendors, Krissy and Melinda brought an elegant yet rustic vibe to Josias River Farm. Guests arrived to the farm and were escorted around back where the ceremony would take place. Lavish flowers from Little River Flower Farm lined the aisle leading up to a chuppah adorned in purple fabric and more flowers (<–fact, the flowers at this wedding are the inspiration behind the flowers Meli will have at her wedding). The love between Krissy and Melinda is palpable, just look at Melinda’s face when Krissy joined her. Post-ceremony, guests moved to the lawn where they enjoyed some of Maine’s finest: a raw bar, lobster rolls, and crab cakes before heading to dinner under the tent, which like the rest of the elements was beautifully transformed. Dancing and cake was in the barn which carried the purple hues and flowers throughout. This was a wedding for the books, and we are so happy we were a part of it!

Thank you Alex + Betty for the pictures — there were just SO many we wanted to add, it was hard to narrow down!

This is a long overdue post, because well wedding season! We were so grateful to be apart of Jackie and Phil’s big day, the weather was perfect for their outdoor ceremony at the East Wind Inn before heading to Phil’s parents house for their tented reception. The bridal party hopped aboard the family’s sailboat and sailed over to the reception site, talk about an entrance! Jackie and Phil’s decor rang true to New England, with lighthouses and rope knots donning the tables, Bean Boots filled with flowers, and mini lobster rolls and a raw bar for guests to enjoy. Guests were treated to an extra special surprise, fireworks were set off filing the sky with beautiful pops of color and the ooh’s and ahh’s could be heard through the tent. Thank you for having us, Jackie and Phil!

natalie & kevin | 8.6.16

Imagine the sun shining down on rows of white chairs lined up on lush green grass overlooking Sebago Lake lapping in the light breeze while boats pass by. August 6th was a picturesque Maine day and a perfect day for a wedding at that. Natalie and Kevin’s family and friends gathered on the sprawling 10 acres Rockcraft Lodge sits on to share in their big day. The ladies got ready in the bridal suite while the guys could be seen running through the lawn and swimming in the lake. Guests were seated for a ceremony led by a good friend of the couple before enjoying cocktail hour and heading under the tent for a night of good food, drinks, and dancing. The love between these two is undeniable, just look at these pictures, look how indescribably happy they are!

allie & michael 7.30.16

Allie and Michael’s wedding day brought nothing but sun and cotton candy-like clouds, perfect wisps of white on an otherwise clear blue sky. The bride and her maid of honor got ready in the bridal suite, sipping bubbly and getting their hair and makeup done, while the groom and his best man had a laid back morning grilling and hanging out with the couples’ dog, Penny. The barn at Marianmade Farm was completely transformed with the help of mismatched vintage plates, lace runners, elegant floral pieces, finished with a piece of lavender at each place setting courtesy of the farm. Guests sat overlooking the water as Allie and Michael exchanged hand-written vows before heading up to the tent for cocktail hour, think mini-lobster rolls and a raw bar. After a family-style dinner was served, guests danced the night away. It was the perfect tented-Maine wedding.

jean & micah 7.17.16

The morning started out with heavy rain, clouds, and thunder/lightning warnings. Yet, some how, the day still turned out to be nothing short of a perfect day for a wedding. When Jean and Micah arrived at Thompson’s Orchard, what once was a row of orchard trees was the ideal location to carry a chuppah, perform a ceremony, and become husband and wife – all with a rainbow overhead to boot. What once was an empty field turned into the perfect tented reception venue. Guests enjoyed the truly incredible tastes of Fire & Company for cocktail hour, dinner, and dessert service. Can you say: lobster rolls, sliders, unlimited pizza and Reese’s s’mores? It was so much fun to be a part of such a fun celebration of the love that Jean and Micah share and to be there to witness all of the joy and memories of their wedding that they will get to keep forever.
